Say the words Cemetery Thieves; what images come to mind. Do you envision Dr. Frankenstein and his evil assistant, robbing graves for body parts. Maybe that was the case in an old movie, but the problem today is much simpler and almost as strange.

Can you imagine what would motivate someone to steal flowers, mementoes and other items from a grave site? The problem is real and it happens every day nation wide.

How many of you have gone to cemeteries and seen the decorations on Fourth of July and Veteran's Day. The flags proudly waving in the wind, a memory to all of us, of those people who served valiantly in a long past war.

As part of those decorations, there is usually some form of flag holder, A Star or other form of emblem.

These are being stolen at many cemeteries all across America !

The problem has gotten so bad in some areas that Veteran's groups are starting to fight back. They are building fences around what used to be open cemeteries and some are even going to the extent of trying to catch thieves in the act.

Come on folks ! Has our society gotten this sick ! What in any person's mind could possibly justify the theft of anything from a cemetery, let alone any form of honor bestowed on anyone. Is there a hot market for stolen grave emblems? Or is there some cult out there doing rituals around these items. Or is it just another case of the unsupervised youth of America having nothing better to do on a Friday Night? Is there no decency left in America?

Whatever the cause is, it is time to put a stop to all theft from cemeteries. Cemeteries are places of Honor and Memorial and theft is pure desecration. It's time to stand up and say Shame on You to those in our society who would defile our final resting places. It time to bring Honor and Dignity back to America.

If you know of anyone who has stolen from a cemetery, turn them in to local law enforcement. It may be just a penalty or a fine, but people that would stoop this low, need to be taught a lesson. The lesson that it is NOT proper to defile our cemeteries this way and that there is no honor or reward in being a Cemetery Thief.
